June 5th

June 5th, 2014
For Christmas, Danny and I got Mom golf clubs and then lessons for Mother's day.
We took Mom to the driving range to have her practice before we signed up for a class together. Dad even tagged along. We had a blast!
[Plus, the light was heavenly!]

  1. Hey Whitney! I can't believe you have been taking a photo a day for so long!! That's amazing! I found your blog through the link-up at Click It Up a Notch. My husband and I are in the process of creating a new feature at The Albums to help our members begin and finish a Project 365.

I was wondering…since it seems like you've finished a lot of Project 365s :), what's one piece of advice you would tell someone about to embark on one?

    Thanks so much!

    1. I'd say, just get out and shoot. There are some days where nothing happens and it forces me to think and physically go out and walk around. My picture of the day started as a new years resolution that I could actually keep in 2011 - the first year on my own and in college. I wanted a way to document my new life. It's so important for me to keep on shooting everyday. It helps me hone in and tune my skills as well as keeping a visual journal. Even the "boring" days when I haven't done anything "picture-worthy" I still make it a goal to get at least one picture. Even if it's what i'm about to eat, or a pretty leaf right outside of my door. Life isn't entirly made up of the grand, exciting, moments, it has quiet, unseen, unproductive and overlooked specs of time, that for that brief release of my shutter was captured. As you can probably tell from the dates that my posts are, I don't always get around to uploading my photos the second after I capture my photo, but that's not the important part to me. Post production and my blog are great, but they aren't what really matters. One of my photo idols spoke to my class and said "imagine if you could photograph your dream shoot and everything went perfectly." we all sat there for a second day dreaming of our "perfect shoot," then he said, "now, imagine that you cannot show those photographs to anyone, would you still do it?" My answer is yes. These photos are for me, it doesn't matter that I'm coming up on five years, or one of my photos might win an award. You give yourself photo assignments for yourself. This is your art, your way of expressing yourself. This is who you are in pictures.

So, like I said before. Just get out and shoot. Doesn't matter what it is, you don't have to explain yourself to anyone. Heck it can even be of your empty bowl of cereal you snarfed down for breakfast, the point is shoot for you.
